Biography
Lucid Safari are a Brisbane/Meanjin band combining indie-rock with dreamlike textures to create a sound that is anthemic, melodic and dynamic . Fronted by songwriter and guitarist Daniel J. Lewis alongside bassist Alex Cremin and drummer Nic Ross, the band is entering a new era defined by bold sonic exploration and a sharper, more refined edge.
Their latest single, “Something More” (Nov 2024), captured national attention, winning the QLD OzIndi Top 50 and showcasing the band’s ability to pair emotionally charged lyricism with “super sparkly, spacey” production. The track builds on the momentum of their earlier releases, including “When You Go” and the Delirium EP, which not only earned them high rotation on U.S. radio station KXFM but also saw them chart on the AMRAP metro charts — proof of their growing resonance with tastemakers and audiences alike.
Since their inception, Lucid Safari have made a rapid ascent through Australia’s live music circuit — from festival appearances and sold-out shows at Black Bear Lodge, to a 13-date east coast tour and a coveted support slot for Australian rock heavyweights British India. These milestones have earned them a reputation for delivering magnetic live performances that connect with audiences on both an intimate and explosive scale.
As they step into their next chapter, Lucid Safari are honing a sound that is both nostalgic and forward-looking — a lush, melodic take on dream-rock that continues to evolve with each release. With new music on the horizon and a growing national profile, Lucid Safari are a band on the cusp of something much bigger.

Meanjin/Brisbane indie-rock outfit Lucid Safari return with their shimmering single 'Running' - produced by Blake Malone (Amy Shark, Tia Gostelow, Budjerah).
'Running' fuses alt-rock nostalgia with a contemporary indie sensibility, glittering guitars and dynamic rhythms that capture the ache of unspoken connection. It's a track that feels both expansive and intimate, showcasing the band's ability to turn vulnerability into something anthemic and euphoric.
Lead singer Daniel Lewis explains the inspiration behind the track:
"'Running' is about that ache you feel for someone you never really got the chance to know. It's that unspoken connection that lingers, the one that got away before anything real could even start. You're replaying moments, chasing fragments and memories that never quite left you. Underneath the energy of the song, there's a quiet kind of longing about how time moves on, people change, but some feelings just stay with you."
Since forming, the band have carved a growing name within the national indie scene, sharing stages with the likes of British India, Kate Miller-Heidke and Ian Moss, and selling out their headline show at Meanjin/Brisbane's Black Bear Lodge (250 tickets).
Drawing inspiration from luminaires The Jungle Giants, The Temper Trap and The Wombats, Lucid Safari craft a vibrant yet unhurried sound, soaked in the warmth and pulse of Coastal Meanjin/Brisbane energy. With 'Running', Lucid Safari deliver a moment of reflection and release - confronting the ghosts of desire, and the bittersweet truth that some people will never know who we've become.
